Troubleshooting Common Issues with Water Vapor Cryopumps: What to Do About Slow Cooling or Failure t

In coating production environments, the most common issue with water vapor cryopumps is that while the unit operates, the temperature fails to drop below the process requirement of -120°C under actual load. This directly impairs water vapor capture capability and is the root cause of many process failures. We have summarized common causes and troubleshooting strategies to help equipment engineers quickly pinpoint issues. 1. Poor heat dissipation. High workshop ambient temperatures and dust-clogged condenser filters reduce heat dissipation efficiency. Inspect the fan and filters, clean away dust, and ensure adequate ventilation space for the unit; this is the most frequent cause of failure. 2. Minor refrigerant system leakage. Slight leaks in cascade refrigeration systems do not cause an immediate, complete shutdown but lead to a continuous decline in cooling capacity; while no-load temperatures may remain acceptable, the temperature rises when the system is subjected to the thermal load of chamber bake-out. System pressure must be checked and the correct refrigerant replenished; mixing different brands or types of refrigerant is strictly prohibited. 3. Thermal radiation interference from the chamber. If cryocoils are positioned too close to high-temperature workpieces during bake-out, thermal radiation heats the coils and counteracts the cooling effect. This is a design/layout issue requiring an assessment to adjust coil positioning or install shielding baffles. 4. Fouling on coil surfaces. During prolonged production, sputtered coating materials adhere to the outer walls of the coils, impairing heat transfer; the coils require cleaning and maintenance. 5. Power supply voltage fluctuations. Particularly common in Southeast Asian factories, unstable voltage affects compressor unit operation. When a fault occurs, do not blindly dismantle the unit. The technical team at Guangzhou Xieyi Automation can provide remote assistance to help customers systematically identify the fault—distinguishing between external operating condition issues and internal unit malfunctions—thereby minimizing the risk of secondary damage caused by unnecessary disassembly and reducing production line downtime.
